Pokédex – Prop Exercise (High to Low)
I'm a big Pokémon fan and wanted to create a prop from the series—naturally, the Pokédex felt like the perfect choice.
I originally built it as a high-poly model for rendering in Maya, but as I started learning Marmoset Toolbag, I decided to optimize it for real-time visualization by lowering the poly count.
In the end, I produced two versions:
A high-poly version, rendered in Maya (first images), and
A low-poly version, baked and optimized at 45k polys.
This project helped me improve my workflow in Substance Painter, especially with masks for creating stickers and learning to use anchor points, which I hadn’t used much before.
The main challenge was keeping the final look of the original model as close as possible, while adapting a new low-poly mesh into the existing Substance Painter project that only contained the final model and textures.
