Description: My personal take on the iconic Mechabuton from the classic anime "Time Bokan". The goal of this project was to blend the whimsical 70s design with a modern, weathered aesthetic, imagining it as a real-life mechanical relic.
This project was developed as a personal practice focused on Hard Surface workflow and basic mechanical rigging implementation.
Key Features:
Modeling & Rigging: Fully poseable model with functional wings and functional details, created in Maya. I utilized a basic vehicle template from Advanced Skeleton, adding custom joints for the wings and other moving parts.
Sculpting & Texturing: PBR Workflow. Fine scratches and surface damage were sculpted in ZBrush and baked in Substance Painter. The texturing focuses on storytelling through heavy weathering and wear and tear.
Process & Final Render: I am including some tests performed in Unreal Engine as part of my technical exploration process. However, for the final presentation, I chose a clean render using an infinite backdrop within Maya.
Technical: Optimized topology and organized UV layouts using 3 UDIMs for the main body to ensure high-resolution rendering.
Software used: Maya (Modeling, Rigging & Rendering), ZBrush (Detailing), Substance Painter (Texturing), Unreal Engine (Process tests), and Arnold.
Role: End-to-end production (Modeling, UVs, Rigging, Texturing, Lighting, and Rendering).
